Meta
I joined Meta as the design lead for the Facebook Incubator. I oversaw design of 0-1 initiatives and mentored colleagues across disciplines. I led two major initiatives, managed multiple sprints, and still made time for a hackathon. I helped create a new quality metric and doubled the score during my tenure.
A majority of my tenure focused on SFV. I worked across Facebook and Instagram to integrate Reels into Groups — ensuring they thrived in communities through projects like attribution, chaining, and resharing. I led design for a major initiative, recruiting and directing dozens of designers from across the company. This effort identified and implemented numerous enhancements that were immediately shipped to increase user-generated content, expand reach, boost interaction, and support unification efforts.
I was expected to push teams to pursue what they thought they should rather than what they thought they could. I joined teams exploring themes such as product hacking, fitness, motivation, and connection. In a hybrid product/design capacity, I isolated the best starting tests, crafted initial specs, designed visions, and provided clear iteration paths. My efforts set teams up for success, leading to successful product launches and aligning emerging ideas with important horizontal efforts.
Immersion was a competitive opportunity for Facebook. I led an immersive design workshop and crafted concepts that influenced multiple roadmaps. Additionally, I collaborated with a grassroots, company-wide team to produce a sizzle reel exploring how we might make Facebook more immersive.
I defined new metrics that enabled us to quantify quality. I drove adoption by promoting best practices, incorporating linting into design reviews, and automating the bug filing process. These changes encouraged colleagues to use existing components and more actively participate in bug reporting during alphas/betas. My efforts increased design quality by 100%.
I also built an extension to the Facebook Design System to power a new Figma starter file. Colleagues could now create internally branded Figma projects with consistent structures, flows, and statuses in a matter of seconds.
I identified several opportunities to make our design language more cohesive, formalize product hacks, increase consistency, and reduce complexity. I consulted on multiple share sheet sprints and designed unification recommendations for creation, post types, and reactions.
Creating meaningful connections was a core tenet of the Communities organization. I led design for a major initiative, recruiting and directing dozens of designers from across the company. Our team explored new ways to foster mutual connections. We turned passive relationships into active ones and helped group members get to know each other better.
I shipped two versions of additional profiles, led multiple sprints, and designed several visions that helped young adults discover new interests and explore their passions anonymously.
